For the past 25 years in community practice, Dr. Chaney has been working with children, adolescents, and individual adults.  She has also worked with marriages for the past 25 years, acquiring both expertise and depth of experience.

“Each individual has a unique composition that is influenced by both past and present events in our lives.  Sometimes in navigating our way though difficulties and life transitions we find ourselves mired in old patterns of behavior that are not useful, and both recognizing this and moving from it can be problematic for us. We all have strengths that once identified, can certainly help us develop new and healthier coping strategies.

Children are powerless to address the family relationship situations of divorce and separation, as well as some school situations.  Adolescents are trying to find their place in the world as well as establish themselves as unique human beings, and often fall into methods that can be regressive instead of progressive. Adults in our culture are now dealing with stresses from their own children as well as their parents and navigating all of this can be extremely difficult and anxiety producing. Priorities change as we age, and priorities of teens are vastly different from priorities of adults.

Marriages are one of my favorite life situations to see, and watching a couple put their marriage into a more healthy frame can be very exciting and rewarding. Watching marriages get healthy has been one of my greatest joys.”

Therapeutic modalities are theoretical models on which the therapist constructs their thinking. I use cognitive behavioral , family dynamic, solution focused, object relational, structural, and client centered modalities.
